From my time
In my time there was time.
I remember well that for example
the fig tree spilled relaxation
and a rose lasted
much longer than any job.
On the other hand, we asked to borrow naps
from death.
Maybe time was like fruit
you gifted it to the neighbors
after seeing it ripen.
You shared it on the sidewalks
among fans and misters
in calm t-shirts
while brooms came and went calmly
gathering it as something important.
And eternity was sitting on its straw chair
just because.
The thing is, it was always so early
and abundance, the flood of timely truce was so ensured
that one kept time in hats
and one day one spent all of it
in just one hello.
One traveled everywhere in a book
and visited different pastimes:
the one right next door, the one from the other side of the street, the pastime of the aunts.
The curse of hurry had not yet been invented, no.
Not at all. The mirrors
waited a lot for someone to comb his unhurried hair one could find.
Time was a perfume and noone
came to measure it or put it in boxes.
The only thing trains did
was to mention it on the timetables.
One could cry as much as one wanted
because the corners were slow
or maybe because there were still flowerpots
in which to put a tear
without the flowers resisting.
Or because the drizzle of rain spoke
in a language without resentment.
All of us used time and we lost it
accomplices of its luxurious attendance
and even boredom
was a way to be on the balconies
that touched us delicately.
I believe there's still some of real time left, but it's far away.
Very far away, on some patios,
it has taken refuge in wells.
It still exists in lonely children
who reign over thresholds
and in the polished majesty of the cat.
I suppose so, I don't know anymore, we know nothing.
Time without being punishment.
I got to know it: it is buried
in the most alive part of my heart.
Then the clocks came.
